What do you want?

Most people spend their lives unsure of what they want…

How often do you sit down and really think about exactly what you want for your life?

When my business coach spoke these words to me it really struck a chord.

What do I actually want? For my life, my career, my partner…

I mean, I know what I don’t want – to be unhappy, job-less, home-less, unappreciated and all that. But if I had to actually write down exactly what I want for my life, how I would like things to go… where would I start?

After all, how can I complain about not getting what I want in my life, when I haven’t really defined what exactly that is?

Most people like to complain, but they aren’t willing to do anything about it.

So I started to do something about it… if you’re in a similar situation in your life, you might find the following examples useful.

  • I started to write some goals – what I would like to achieve in 1 month, 3 months, 6, 12 and so on. Both business-wise and in my personal life. I wrote this in two ways – one with the Omethod (i’ll explain shortly) and one with specific tasks I want to complete so I can track my progress.
  • Then I thought about the big picutre – where do I want to be in 5 years time, 10 years, 20… so I wrote a letter to myself in 5 years covering everything I could think of. Where I see myself living, with who, where I’m at in my career, what possessions I have, properties, where I’ve traveled to, what my family life is like, how things are with my friends, and so on…I’m really looking forward to reading this in the future and looking back on how far I’ve come!
  • I surrounded myself with inspiring material – posters, pictures, quotes, music, videos and so on. I put a huge poster on my bathroom door with the words “most people spend their lives unsure of what they want” and this reminds me every single day, to determine what I want, and to go for it.

This is just the beginning, but I feel a burst of clarity in my life now that I’ve finally started to tell the universe exactly what I want.

It’s amazing how your subconscious works away on things once you say them out loud or write them down.

goals o3If you haven’t used the O3 (o-cubed) method before , it’s basically aligning your objectives and outputs so that they result in the outcome that you want.

So basically the specific 1,3,6,12 month goal sheet is my outputs, which are leading me to my objectives and will result in the outcome that I want for my life.

Hope that makes sense… the objective is what you want, the output is what you’ll do to achieve that, and the outcome is what you want from it / what you’ll get / how you’ll feel once it’s achieved.

The key is to get really specific – how much money do you want to make, where do you want to be, who do you want to be with etc. and that stuff may change over time, but at least you know right now where you would like to go?

I think it’s great to have the big picture of where you want to go in life, and then also the specifics of how you’re going to achieve it.

Why not put it out there to the universe… demand what you want for your life, dream big, and watch what happens…
